Getting Started

How to Use TenantGuard™

Four steps to document your issue, build your case, and protect your rights as a tenant.

Step 01

Organize the Dispute

  1. 1Tap Cases in the sidebar, then New Case.
  2. 2Give the case a clear title (e.g., "Unreturned Security Deposit" or "Broken Heating Unit").
  3. 3Capture what happened, when it started, and what you've asked your landlord to fix or pay.
  4. 4Select the category, state, and rental address so the record is jurisdiction-ready.
  5. 5Add the landlord's name and email so every notice and conversation ties back to one file.
Pro Tip Open one case per dispute — repairs, notices, payments, and conversations stay sorted for housing court, mediation, or legal aid.

Step 02

Document Repairs, Notices & Payments

  1. 1Upload photos of repair issues, scanned notices, rent receipts, and bank confirmations.
  2. 2Tag each item Repair, Notice, Payment, or Other so it's easy to pull on demand.
  3. 3Add a short note describing what the evidence shows and the date it relates to.
Pro Tip Timestamped uploads turn loose photos and receipts into court-ready proof of what your landlord did — or didn't — do.

Step 03

Log Every Landlord Conversation

  1. 1Open Meeting Log → New Meeting after any call, text, email, or in-person visit.
  2. 2Pick the date, time, and interaction type, then write detailed notes about what was said.
  3. 3If in person, capture the landlord's signature — or toggle 'Landlord refused to sign'.
Pro Tip A clean record of conversations is one of the most persuasive exhibits in housing court and mediation.

Step 04

Generate a Court-Ready Report

  1. 1Open Reports once your case file is up to date.
  2. 2Acknowledge that you're responsible for the accuracy of the data.
  3. 3Tap Generate PDF Report to export a dated, organized packet for court, mediation, or legal aid.
Pro Tip Bring the PDF to your hearing, mediator, or legal aid intake — judges and advocates respond to organized, court-ready documentation.
